Parish of St. Mary's
and Ladychapel
Welcome to our Parish WebSite. I am delighted that you have
logged in and hopefully you will find your visit pleasant and
informative.
Maynooth has a long and glorious history. Diocesan records tell
us that the Parish was founded around 1615, from the old
parishes of Laraghbryan, Leixlip, Confey, Donaghmore and
Taghadoe. A quick visit to our
Parish History section can bring you back over eight hundred
years.
It is the people of Maynooth who form our Parish
Community – a community that has expanded so rapidly in the past
twenty years and is still growing. Our Parish Church is St. Mary’s of the
Assumption, which was completed in 1840. The title is
recalled by the beautiful stained glass window installed over
the altar depicting Our Lady’s Glorification into Heaven.
A map outlining the boundary of our Parish is inside the Church
just beside our bookshop. We also have a refurbished Chapel of
Ease at Ladychapel.
This was built by Mr John Dillon of Carton, the Steward of the
Duke if Leinster, for the accommodation of the Catholic
Parishioners. It was dedicated in June 1863. |
